Personal Email
Over time you establish credibility with your friends, clients, contacts and family. Nothing can replace the value of this. Your clients/members/customers/friends know your ‘voice’, therefore you do no have to hard sell them. You have a set of contacts that are unique to you.
I once worked for an insurance company. I couldn’t work out why they continually took on new staff and were prepared to spend hundreds of dollars each year, training them. This was in spite of the fact that the company knew the majority of recruits would never last very long. Finally I asked a long time agent what was the reasoning behind this. “New recruits bring in a whole set of new contacts, who will trust and help the new recruit to get started. This way we don’t have to take time to get the new clients to ‘trust’ the company and thousands of dollars of new business is written this way, every year. Even if the young recruit leaves after only a few months, the value of the contacts brought in through this ’soft’ sell is invaluable. It’s up to the company to then nurture that new business, even if the trainee leaves.”
Every person who becomes an Affiliate and emails personal contacts, brings in a lot of customers we could never reach.
Effective Content
Here are keys to your successful email campaign:
- Keep your email personal. You are their friend not a salesperson. Personalize each email, even if it is just to change the name on the subject line
- Tell them why you think they should buy this product - what are the benefits to them and in this case to geographically underprivileged children.
- Be honest - The Accommodation Voucher and Free Raffle Ticket, with the rewards going to non-repayable education grants, does not need anything extra added to it. The benefits are already there.
- Be knowledgeable - Take time out to read through YouMe Support Foundation. Understand what the Foundation is about and the work that has already been done in the community. Read through the FAQ pages of Win a Resort.
- Be ready to answer questions - Answer emails as quickly as possible. If you have a question you do not know the answer to, send them to our websites.
- Never overstate the facts or make promises the product doesn’t offer.
- Keep it short - no one likes to be bored with long explanations.
- Keep it simple: You know the KISS formula. ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’
- Don’t use a lot of adverbs. ‘This idea is the most wonderfully, absolutely, terrifically, superbly…
- Never, Never Forget to put your Affiliate link on your email. They will buy an Accommodation Voucher after reading your email, but from someone else.
- Add to the bottom of your email: ‘If you think this is a great idea, share it with a friend.’
- Send your email to yourself first to see how it looks.
- Tweak It - Watch carefully to see what result you get from your first few emails. Tweak (change) it often if you have to. This is serious work.
- Don’t make the mistake of sending out your email in a blanket ’send to all contacts’. Have your tried joining ‘Face Book’ and pressed the All Contacts button. You don’t always realize just who is on your contact list! And people do not like blanket emails. It is just short of a spam.
- Above all enjoy what you are doing and then you will enjoy the results even more.
Subject Lines that get Your Emails Accepted
If you can’t get people to open your email, it doesn’t matter how good your content is! Just take watch your own mail box for a day and see how you react to certain emails.

- Samone, Here is what you have been waiting for
- Kahy, Let me know if you win!
- Mick, I get free accom if you win.
Keep your subject line short and punchy and your email personal.
Value of Good Jokes/Cartoons
A good joke will circumnavigate the globe in just 2 days! So before reading any further about actually writing an email, you may just like to stop and take a look at these super cartoons:
DON’T FORGET to:
- Put in a relevant subject line
- Somewhere on your email write: If you think this is a great idea, send this email to a friend.
- Add your affiliate link to the page before you press send.
Format Your Email Promotions
Write and reread is the order of the day for a good email.
Look for those typos and punctuation errors.
‘ here is a great idea you dont wont ot miss this one clidk on the link and buyan acommodatoin voucher andg get free rafflticket. (Not impressed with this email?)
Use a clear font on a clear background. You do not add a lot of annoying background noise %$#@&*&^%%##@$#@.
Watch your line lengths. Don’t you hate lines that disappear into the farrrrrrrr distance somewhere? Some programmes will display your email differently. Play it safe, use the Enter key and keep the line reasonable sizes!
Fonts like Courier are a pain to read because of the equal amount of space displayed for each character and can make your email look very sad on some email readers.
Your recipient needs to be able to quickly scan your email to see if your email is worth reading. We have numerous ‘time saving devices’, yet time has become the one commodity we are all very short of. Particularly if your email is in the middle of 20 other daily emails!
Keep paragraphs short. This aids with scan reading. No more than three sentences.
Keep sentences short and punchy to maintain attention.
Don’t be afraid of white space. It gives the reader time to ‘breathe.’
Above all, keep your email looking professional. ‘You know what you are doing’, is the feeling you need to create in the reader’s mind.
Helpful Tools
Create folders to put your emails in. A long list of emails in your inbox is so depressing to look at. Creates I’ll-do-that-later syndrome.
