Win a Resort - underwear adThe last time we saw Angela Merkel she was doing a solo act on the red carpet, in Strasbourg, welcoming of the heads of the NATO community. Now heads are once more spinning in Germany with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel appearing in a lingerie advert wearing nothing more than a purple matching bra and panties set. A slight twist to the fable of the ‘Emperor’s Clothes’.

The ad is for an underwear company that is offering a $7 discount on new undies to anyone who trades in an old pair. The slogan of the campaign is, “The country needs new undies.”

The fear is that Germany may be starting an illegal trade to Japan, where vending machines offer secondhand, slightly used underwear from ladies.

The electronic advert in Germany is on a busy road junction in the heart of former West Berlin, is causing a stir on the streets. Scores of people are stopping to take photos of the billboard with cameras or mobile phones, which could cause traffic conjestion. ‘I think it’s great. Brilliant. It’s a positive signal for the economic situation in Germany,” said a 54-year-old enthusiast.

Japanese entrepreneurs are urgently waiting to see the outcome of the advert and about to negotiate rates with Fed-X. It could cause the Japanese Kikki N225 to rise back to its 9000 high in April.

It is reported that Merkel, whose image was apparently photo-shopped for the ad, is unlike Michelle Obama and not exactly known as a fashion icon in Germany.

Since becoming a high profile political figure, Angela Merkel has been regularly criticized on her outdated clothes and hairstyle. She says herself that she is not particularly interested in fashion and that she has only recently discovered the joys of make-up, or dressing-up for special occasions.

This advert is proof that you are never too old, or too highly positioned to be considered sexy.
