Child Trust Fund - Win A Resort - Blue Moon Opportunity
First High School Education Grant

Win a Resort in association with YouMe Support Foundation and Child Trust is delighted to announce they have issued the first high school education grant to an ex-Tanna girl, in the tropical islands of Vanuatu, as was published in the Independent Newspaper, Vanuatu, on the weekend of the 6th February, 2009. |
Hungry to continue her education, Maimona's last year in primary school was filled with deep concern that there would be no money available to send her to high school. She wants to become a pilot.
Rick and Wendy asked the teachers of Olwi Primary School, Port Vila to choose a student to be the recipient of the first YouMe Support Foundation and Child Trust Fund high school education grant. After a week of heart breaking deliberations, they chose Maimona, the top student in the class. Maimona can't believe that this once in a lifetime Blue Moon Opportunity has come her way.
Wish you could have been there to see Maimona's beaming smile when she learned she had been given a high school education grant. She is very special and now her dreams can come true. She is loving every minute at school and doing so well. She was excited to tell us she had all her spelling test correct for end of term. She is studying English, maths, science, agriculture, religous studies and social studies in Year 7. While whe plays football and cricket, volleyball is her favourite. Congratulations to hard-working, high-achieving Maimona.
No Free Education in Vanuatu
With little or no government assistance and no free education in Vanuatu, voted the Happiest Country On Earth, in 2006, the overall statistics of education are a HORROR story, with little alteration to them since the survey in 1999:
- 26% Never go to school at all
- 55.8% of children get to year 6 - mainly due to the effort of aid agencies
- Only 18.2% have the opportunity to go to High School.
Some of the children are so hungry for an education they will do anything they can to get it. One 14 year old girl is living in Fiji with her grandmother, afraid to go home for school holidays in case she cannot get an airfare to return to school. She is homesick and misses her family terribly. In a culture where family relationships are valued above possessions, this is a high price for this young girl to pay. The importance of getting an education takes precedence in her young life.

No cash economy, means no money to pay the school fees. The dreams of these children are destined to remain unfulfilled, unless they are given help. YouMe Support Foundation is one of the few foundations assisting these children. |
You can make a real difference in their young lives through Win A Resort Blue Moon Opportunity and maybe help yourself at the same time. You could get to meet some of these great kids.
